Suggestions for Teachers, Parents and Other Mentors

The staff at Outpost Oops considers mentors willing to provide learners with opportunities to explore self-care niceness invaluable. In turn, we want encouraging students to practice kind and fair ways to secure personal serenity and social harmony to be a gratifying undertaking.

Easy Ways To Get Started:

1. A convenient way to promote mental health self-care is clicking on the Mini-Lessons link on the homepage. Mentors may assign specific mini-lessons, or they may allow learners to choose the order the lessons will be undertaken. Desined for learners 10 and up, each lesson offers an opportunity to recognize and advance mental health self-care skills. Having learner’s complete one of the 40 lessons weekly will allow learners to consider the usefulness of the messages throughout a school year. Allowing learners to work on the messages with trusted individuals, possibly relatives, friends or classmates, is encouraged.
2. Another handy way to get learning about mental health self-care quickly underway is having learners click on the Fun Unscrambling link found on the homepage. This activity offers leaners seven and up an opportunity to gain basic mental health self-care knowledge and skill. Mentors might require one of the 40 messages presented be unscrambled weekly, thereby allowing learners to consider the usefulness of the messages throughout a school year. Permitting learners to work on the messages with trusted individuals, possibly relatives, friends or classmates, is encouaged.
3. The Mini-Posters activity, also found on the homepage, is another way to help learners seven and up commit to healthy self-care notions. Learners merely need to select a poster they find meaningful, either from the list provided or from another source at the Outpost, then recreate the poster by putting the selected notion (text) on a drawing, painting, photograph or another creative place. Once completed, learners are told to put the creation in an easy-to-spot location. Learners can be asked to report on the difficulty they have pausing to pay attention to their creation.
4. The Nice Stuff To Say lesson listed on the homepage is a handy way to turn talk of kindness and fairness into talking kindness and fairness. Because being nice requires us to express kindness and fairness in ways seldom heard in day-to-day living, role-playing such statements can come in handy. Keep in mind that the tentative, empathic and humble manner encouraged can, at first, be awkward.
